May, that month just before summer and when last minute planting takes place. For some, May is the end of the school year, the beginning of a new job, or another month in a series of twelve. For the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum, May couldn’t be any better! The Museum has a lot to offer this month, from exhibit openings to lectures, and concerts, there’s something for everyone.

Coastal Reflections: A Textile Exhibit by Mary Arnold opens May 7th

On Saturday, May 7th, join the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum and textile artist, Mary Arnold for the opening of her solo show, Coastal Reflections. The opening reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a presentation by the textile artist. The exhibit

integrates Arnold’s quest for artistic balance and love of nature. Each piece is crated with batiks, hand-dyed fabrics, and even hand painted fabric to create forest, beach, and river scenes. Arnold likes to interpret and twist what we see in every day life into unique and colorful fabric creations. She enjoys being able to take fabric and use it as other would use paint or pastels to crate images you will see in the exhibit. Arnold is an accomplished textile artist who has shown her work internationally. She has won countless awards for her creativity, skill, and love of the craft. Don’t miss her solo show at the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum, on display May 7 through September 11, 2016. The textile exhibit has been sponsored by Cannon Beach’s Center Diamond!

Poetry Reading with Dave Densmore on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

Dave Densmore will read a collection of his poetry at the Museum on May 12th at 7pm.

Don’t miss the season finale of the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum’s free monthly lecture series. Each month the museum welcomes authors, historians, scientists, and archaeologists from all over the Pacific Northwest. This May, they welcome acclaimed Oregon poet, Dave Densmore for a poetry reading. Densmore has appeared in the New York Times and Smithsonian Magazine, was one of the subjects of a documentary called ‘Fisher Poets’, and has published several books of his writings. Hear Dave Densmore read his work and answer questions on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. Seating for this event is limited. This event is free and open the public!

Dueber & Friends Concert on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. & Opening of the temporary exhibit, From the Vault

Local musician, Paul Dueber will serenade listeners accompanied by his group, Thistle & Rose at the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum on Friday, May 27th at 7:00 p.m. Thistle & Rose is a local group that performs regularly in Cannon Beach and around the

Pacific Northwest. They perform Folk and Americana songs from the 60’s to the 80’s. Their blend of original songs with the songs of their youth is a musical tapestry extremely enjoyable to tap toes and sing along with. Dueber has just released his first EP of original music entitled, “Gypsy Soul”, which he will be debuting at the Museum.

The event space creates an intimate setting that produces a sound warm enough to wrap up in. Seating for this concert is limited. Tickets are available at the Museum, over the phone (503-436-9301), or through the online gift shop. Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. All proceeds will help fund upcoming events at the History Center; including future concerts, lectures, exhibits, and field trips.
